Saint Marys
City along the Georgia-Florida border with a population of about 18,000. The land on which it was developed once belonged to the Timucua people, who thrived in the region prior to the arrival of European settlers. St. Marys' cultural identity is influenced by its coastal setting, the early success of its lumber industry, and its involvement in the War of 1812 and the Civil War. It is also the only location providing ferry access to Cumberland Island.
